Holistic Acne Clearing Program-Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost?

Typically, I charge about $145 for your customized set of products you initially take home. The products last you a month or more. The treatments are $117. It typically takes about six treatments over a 3-month period of time to see results. I have packages starting at $270 for three treatments ($90 each) or 6 for $480 ($80 each) at the beginning of treatment with me. If you come in for a consultation only, the cost is $117. If you come in for a treatment and consultation, which is what most people do, you pay for the treatment which is $117.

How long will the first appointment take?

The first appointment is scheduled for about 1 hour for your consultation and another hour if you decide to proceed with your first treatment on the same day. Subsequent appointments are scheduled for 1 hour. When you start to get clearer and there are fewer extractions to do, treatments will take less and less time.

What is going to happen in the appointment?

It depends on whether you get just a consultation with me OR you get a consultation and treatment with me. The consultation by itself is $117. If you, however, come in for a treatment, which is $117, the consultation is free. This is what to expect from your first appointment:

  1. I consult with you regarding your experience and your prior treatments
  2. analyze your acne
  3. give you mounds of useful information regarding products and diet, medications etc.,
  4. take some preliminary pictures,
  5. test your skin for sensitivities,
  6. make product recommendations and show you exactly how to use the products (and, if you are getting a treatment),
  7. do the treatment, which includes exfoliation and extractions

What are the treatments like?

I either do a very mild chemical peel on your skin or I do a gentle enzyme exfoliation with steam. Generally speaking, neither of these are uncomfortable or will make your skin visibly peel or there might be very mild un-noticeable peeling. I then do extractions of your acne.

Do the extractions hurt?

For most people, there is a slight discomfort but it’s very tolerable.

Why do the extractions?

It’s the fastest way to get clear – I extract the current lesions out and the home care prevents the new ones from forming. It takes up to 90 days for acne to form and come to the surface, so in the three months that I am working with you, you will have some breakout. These are just old lesions coming to the surface that we extract every two weeks.

Do I have to use your products?

Yes. There are too many brands in the marketplace that have pore-clogging ingredients in them. Acne is tricky enough to treat – I do not want to take any chances with comedogenic products.

Do I have to get treatments?

If you live close enough to the clinic, it is in your best interest to get acne treatments from me. That is the fastest way to get clear; and also helps me to monitor your home care to get you clear in the fastest possible way.

You should come in for an Acne Treatment every two weeks for the first three months. I use professional-strength exfoliants that need to be applied by a professional. The products used treat your skin to facilitate the process of clearing AND –

  • To allow me to monitor your progress and make changes to your home-care as needed
  • To exfoliate the skin so that home-care products can penetrate the pore more easily
  • To lighten dark spots (if you have them) that are caused by acne lesions
  • To hydrate the skin so that the skin is receptive to your home-care regimen
  • To extract existing acne impactions
  • For killing acne bacteria inside the pore

Professional Acne Treatments done by me, your Acne Specialist, will help you clear your skin more quickly than with just products alone. I also want to closely monitor your skin, making sure that we are “pushing” your skin to clear but not so much that your skin gets irritated. We are partners in this process, working together so you can have clear skin as quickly as possible.

Those of you unfortunate enough to have an acne condition that’s too resistant to respond to the many treatments out there, need a comprehensive approach to treating your skin. Antibiotics, Accutane, Retin-A, Blue light therapy, Laser, Microdermabrasion, Chemical and enzyme peels and all those pharmaceutical skin care products that range from inexpensive to ridiculously expensive, either address only a part of the problem or do nothing at all.

Most Dermatologists are more knowledgeable about the function, condition, and diseases of the skin than we are. But are they giving you the time and attention needed to deal with your complex skin problem? Their typical prescriptions may temporarily kill bacteria, dry up the sebum (oil from the sebaceous gland), or exfoliate your skin, but the side effects range from quite irritating to extremely dangerous. And are they contacting you regularly to monitor your progress, or even returning your calls of desperation when the program is not working as it should?

Spas have beauticians that are trained in treating the skin, but how often do they effectively treat acne? They are stuck with a line of skin care products that the spa tells them to sell and even if they have taken a course or two on treating acne, they are usually much more comfortable giving a spa facial to their clients with sitar music in the background.

Medi-spas will dazzle you with their machines and technology that can be impressive but quite expensive. And for those of you who can afford it that would be fine, if it worked. But unless they are educating you on diet, lifestyle and giving you a home-care regimen that addresses exfoliation, killing the bacteria, hydrating your skin on a daily basis, making the adjustments to your skin adapting to the products, they won’t get the job done.

Proactiv and its copycats have the right idea and that’s why some people have success getting clear with their system. But even Proactiv isn’t strong enough for most of you, nor do they monitor the changing condition of your skin. Not only that but they never see your skin or talk to you; so how can they know if your complexion is light or dark, your acne is inflamed or non-inflamed, sensitive or not, combined with rosacea, resistant or rapidly responding.

Exclusive Beauty Studio and EB Cosmedicals is truly there for you. I will spend time with you and we will work through your skin type and conditions so you will see true results!

Do I take health insurance?

No, sorry.

How does my system work?

My system works by taking into account the type of acne you have, the type of skin you have and how fast your skin adapts to products. I keep pushing the skin to clear with products that penetrate the pore where acne starts. I don’t push it past its tolerance however, because I don’t want your skin dry and irritated. The products prevent the new acne lesions from forming; I extract the existing acne lesions out and in about three months your acne is under control.

What do the peels actually do?

I can explain more about that in your appointment. My high quality blended corrective peels have multiple purposes including thorough exfoliation, softening of comedones and they lighten dark spots. They also prepare the skin for maximum absorption of my homecare products. They can actually help with signs of aging, as well.

What if I’m on other prescription products?

I require you to stop your prescription products. I have found that they make the skin much too sensitive to use my system. There-fore I generally do not recommend the use of any of them with my regimen.

Can I combine your regimen with another one that I have been on?

Acne is challenging enough to get under control. In order to eliminate the variables, I require that you use only my products. I don’t want to have to wonder if an outside product is causing a problem.

How long does it typically take to get clear?

If you do your homecare exactly like I tell you to and come in every two weeks for a treatment you will most likely be clear in about three to four months. Some people might take a little longer depending on the nature of their acne.

Am I going to have to use these products forever?

You will need to use products to control your acne until you outgrow acne; and no one knows when that is. Many people do outgrow acne, but I am unable to predict when, so you may have to use them for a while to manage your acne, but not forever.

What is the youngest age that you take clients?

I will take clients at whatever age they are breaking out. Acne does not discriminate – neither do I.

Do extractions make my face red? What about if I have a special event coming up? When should I book my appointment?

Most people are quite red from getting extractions – there’s no way around it. So, you really need to plan ahead and make sure you do not have a special event within 24 hours of getting a treatment.

Is there anything that takes the redness away?

I have a calming serum, calming mask and mineral makeup that reduces and covers the red while still looking very natural. Unfortunately, there is no product that will completely take redness away immediately. Only time can do that. Redness fades very gradually; and the acne usually goes away long before the redness from acne lesions subsides.

Who will I be seeing at my appointment?

You will see me (Sonia) your Acne Specialist every single time. My studio is a private, one-on-one clinic. You will never bump into another patient.

How long should I wait for a treatment if I have just gotten a peel/microderm/waxing from another place of business?

I suggest that you wait at least a week, preferably two weeks before you come to see me. I don’t want your skin to be too irritated to use my home care system.

Are doctors on staff?

I do not have any doctors on staff. How am I different from doctors? I have more time to spend with you than a busy doctor. I can listen to all of your skin care concerns. I keep updated with the latest research about acne. I have the best and most effective acne products that do not require a prescription. I am compassionate, empathetic and have also had acne, so I know what you are going through. I give you honest and straightforward answers to all of your skin care questions; and if I do not know the answer, I will do research. I keep in close contact with you throughout your process of getting clear; making sure that your home care is working properly, and your skin is responding. I am hands-on with you in working with your skin, your skin type, your acne type and always do extractions in your treatment appointments.

What if I am pregnant?

I can still treat you for acne, but first you will have to get a list from your doctor as to what ingredients they want you to avoid.

Do you treat scarring?

It depends on what you mean by scarring? If you have dark spots, then yes, those will be treated along with the acne. If you have pitted scars, then no, that is treated by a medical doctor.

Do you treat bumps on the arms aka keratosis pilaris?

Yes, I do treat this condition with pretty good results.

Do you do microdermabrasion?

No. I prefer to use our corrective peels that also help to lighten dark spots. I will determine the best treatment to do for your skin.

Do you offer a family discount?

No but I have a referral discount – for every person you refer to me, I give you $50 in product or treatment.
